Remodeled Basement Laundry Room & Small Bathroom Design

Today I'm sharing one of my recent bathroom remodels. It’s actually a basement laundry-bathroom combo. The homeowner had an unfinished basement, and she hired me to come up with a small bathroom design for the existing laundry area.

While the contractors were busy putting in the studs and hanging sheetrock and cement board and all of that other good stuff, I was busy cultivating laundry bathroom design ideas and making design selections. And in no time at all before I knew it, it was time to put those design choices into action.

Ready for the room tour? Let's go!

Sherwin-Williams Indigo Batik on the accent wall

Paint

When it comes to designs for small bathrooms, I always select my paint colors first. In this home, I selected Sherwin-Williams Indigo Batik for the accent wall.

Sherwin-Williams Ice Cube on the walls

The surrounding walls were painted Sherwin-Williams Ice Cube. Although located in the basement, this room does have two good-sized windows. They let in good light, but we still decided to paint the room mostly white so the light would bounce around the room.

Multi-gray penny mosaic shower floor

Tile

The shower floor is a multi-gray penny mosaic.

Matte porcelain tile on the walls and floor

The shower walls and the bathroom floor are a matte porcelain tile.

Spice-stained butcher block countertop

Countertops

I added a touch of warmth with a spice-stained butcher block countertop next to the stainless steel sink.

Butcher block top above the washer and dryer

Encasing the washer and dryer with the butcher block top adds an additional work surface, and you can't beat having extra storage.

Double-duty vanity area

Vanity and folding station

I also designed a double-duty vanity area and a folding station.

Folding station

The folding station is set at counter height and it has just enough room under it to have multiple baskets to hold clothes ready for the washer real quick.

Shower

Shower

The shower area is high-end, roomy, and luxurious.

Towel hooks

Towel hooks

I chose something a little less traditional by using hooks to hang the towels as opposed to using a towel bar.

Window film

Window film

With the bathroom being located here in the basement, the homeowner was concerned about window privacy. I suggested using a window privacy film, had it installed, and the homeowner loves it.

With this newly remodeled laundry-bathroom combo space, guests staying in the family room next door have a place to use the restroom, freshen up, and even throw in some of their laundry before heading home.
