Painting Brick

If you are thinking of painting brick, stop. I’ll show you four reasons why you should not do that. Painting brick may actually be a bad idea.

1. Painted brick equals high maintenance

Brick is a beautiful material to use because it’s so low maintenance. If you paint, you add maintenance.

2. Painted brick will bubble

When you add paint to brick, it doesn’t allow brick to do what it wants to do, which is to breathe. It gets moisture behind it and as moisture tries to come out of the brick the paint will bubble and peel.

3. Painting brick is trendy

You don’t want to get stuck in whatever trend is happening right now.

Right now it’s trendy to paint your brick white.

Years ago, it was trendy to paint brick gray.

4. Paint is impossible to remove from brick

If you paint brick and change your mind and want to remove it, it’s nearly impossible and very costly to do so.

It’s better to just not paint brick to begin with. I’m not saying this is the case for everybody but I’m giving you things to think about if you are thinking about painting brick. Let me know what you think in the comments.

you can put wooden paneling on top of it, you can choose any color you want and you can get rid of that anytime in the future if you need to.
