My Twin Girls' Nursery – Three Daughters Home

Name a room more fun to decorate than a nursery! …I’ll wait… As a girl mom, I may be (definitely) biased in saying this, but decorating a baby girl’s nursery is the absolute best! There’s so much precious décor to choose from, and I feel like it’s the one room a momma really pours her heart and soul into. There’s something about picturing your sweet little girl (or in my case girls) playing dress-up or having tea parties in the same room you bring them home to.

When I found out I was having twins, so many ideas swirled through my head! I ultimately went with a boho vibe, trying to keep the design simple since it’s such a small room. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about this space, so I thought I’d share all the details of my twin girls’ nursery for you in this post! Not expecting? No problem — Enjoy the cuteness anyway, lol. Playroom Turned Baby Room

Before I got too caught up on decorating ideas, my husband and I actually had to do a little upstairs room re-configuration. We converted Evie’s play room to the babies’ room and ended up losing our guest room, converting that to the new play room. (You with me?) The nursery is the smallest bedroom, and we knew if we kept the playroom where it was, it would be super tight for all three girls to play in. Someday, we are assuming the twins will want their own bedrooms, and when that day comes, we will let them fight over who gets the larger room, haha. In the meantime…

Getting to Work / Choosing a ‘Theme’

Once we decided which room would be the nursery, we got to work! We cleared everything out, and the first task was replacing the grubby old blue carpet that we are almost certain was original to the house. (Ick.) Once the new carpet was installed, I had a blank slate to work with. I knew I wanted to do something different than Everly’s nursery (my now 4-year-old), but didn’t want to go super traditional or theme-y. Actually, neither of my girls’ nurseries had a theme really. Instead, I started with a color palette and went from there. For the twins’ nursery, I immediately knew I wanted to paint the walls Vintage Tea Rose by Behr. I also knew I wanted a focal wall for the cribs to go against. I had my heart set on a certain wallpaper, but the cost prevented me from pulling the trigger, so we went with a board and batten half wall instead. The white contrast really helped break up the color block, and it gave the wall some texture. We also replaced the boob light (iykyk) with a pretty – and very affordable! – wood bead ceiling light I got off Amazon:

Plan out where your larger pieces of furniture are going, and be sure to measure. This is especially important with a nursery because some of your key items may be on a registry or you simply haven’t purchased them before your momma nesting bug hits. 😉 Adding Furniture & Function Our twin girls’ nursery really is quite tiny, and adding in two cribs meant we really needed to optimize space. For that reason, I kept it basic: cribs, changing table, nursing chair, and the rest was just a cherry on top. I spent hours upon hours scouring for the perfect crib. Adam and I weren’t exactly seeing eye to eye because I wanted pretty, dainty cribs, but Adam liked the bulky 4-in-1 cribs. I thought, why couldn’t the pretty cribs be 4-in-1, lol? And then I found these, by Babyletto! They were a little more than we wanted to spend, but the great thing about 4-in-1 cribs is that they not only convert into toddler beds (and these Babyletto ones include the toddler rails, which is a plus!), but they also convert into larger beds that can fit a twin or full mattress. It was a win-win! Adam got his function and I got my pretty. 🙂

As for the rest of the furniture, I’ve linked what I could in my blog post. This rocker, by the way (from Target), is a dream! It is so, so comfy and also reclines! I read a lot of reviews on nursing chairs since our last one was quite uncomfortable, and this one is A+!

+ PRO TIP: With big ticket items like these, definitely do your research! Just because it’s pretty, doesn’t mean it’s functional. Take the time to read reviews. The last thing you want is to be scrambling to return something bulky (especially when you’re in your third trimester and can’t see your feet).

All the Pretty Little Details

Once the furniture was in came the fun part! I loved adding all the little details, like these picture ledge shelves I used for books and this cute little ‘Twice the Love’ abacus I handmade. (See the tutorial on threedaughtershome.com.)

I handmade the curtains using drop cloths and a decorative lace edging (see my drop cloth curtain tutorial on threedaughtershome.com), and also handmade these signs to go on the wall opposite the window. For my oldest, Evie’s room, I handmade her a silk flower mobile and knew I wanted to make something special for the twins room as well. Funny story: I didn’t actually mean for the signs to come out distressed like that lol. The paint peeled off in patches when I lifted the stencil off, so I rolled with it and tried to make it look intentional. I think it ended up going with the boho vibe, so I got away with it haha. I think? (The framed blank wood signs are from Hobby Lobby.)

+ PRO TIP: Add storage! (Thank me later.) Using baskets under a changing table to hide extra diapers, wipes, changing pad covers, etc. will make it look less cluttered. You’ll notice I also added baskets at the foot of each crib, which in my opinion, is a must with babies! Toss in small toys, teethers, sleep sacks, jammies – you name it! Not only does it keep your nursery tidy, but it helps separate which stuff is for which baby. (Twin mamas, I’m sure you can relate.)

I’m so in love with how their room turned out and couldn’t wait to bring our sweet girls home to their new room! I remember sitting in that rocker while they were still in the NICU, so anxious to bring them home. Seeing them now, crawling and playing with one another and big sissy brings me such joy.

Now, someone else have a baby so I can continue to decorate nurseries, lol. Low-key wish I could just decorate baby rooms all day, lol. Available for hire, people! 😇
