Summer Home Tour: Simple Summer Decorating Accents

Simple summer decorating inspiration with touches of green and blue for an easy laid back feel, like summer itself!

Summer is here and it is my favorite season of the year! (Hey, it even makes me rhyme…) I think it’s my favorite because it brings back so many sweet memories… of no school, swimming, summer vacations, the smell of cut grass, summer rain, and Coppertone. Of wearing shorts and flip-flops and hanging out outside until the sun went down. Even as an adult, summer means a more casual and laid back lifestyle. I also love that nature is at its most vibrant and colorful peak of the year. Our days are longer so we can fit in more fun activities!

When I am not outside enjoying summer, I like to have touches of that summer feeling inside! Summer is the easiest season I decorate for. Because it is more easygoing and simple, I keep our home the same way. I just add a few simple accents to my main rooms.

Here is a quick tour of what I added for summer this year!

Let’s start on the front porch…

Most of my decorating time in the summer is actually converted to gardening time – planting, watering, trimming, and weeding. Here on the porch, I’ve put new Kimberly Queen ferns in the urns and summer color in the front pots.

On the doors, I added grapevine wreaths with soft summer foliage in cool tones…white hydrangeas, ferns, and eucalyptus surround a crisp gingham bow.

All of our porch ceilings are painted “haint blue” in true southern tradition. Not sure it keeps the ghosts or the bugs away, but it is truly fitting to our southern-style home!

Moving inside, our flowering spring branches have been replaced with a large tropical plant in the foyer urn.

The living room coffee table now displays a bouquet of green and white hydrangeas. I think this color combination looks so fresh and alive like the summer foliage outside!

The dining room table bowl decor is replaced with faux orchids from IKEA.

In the family room, I decided to change to vibrant blue and green color accents for summer. It is so easy to add a new color by season since my basic decor is very neutral. I put royal blue velvet pillows on the sectional along with an outdoor pillow that definitely says summer!

To balance the pop of blue on the other side of the room, I draped a bright blue throw in this sitting area. My hydrangeas outside the window are trying to get in on the blue theme this year!

I like to bring in nature with greenery every season of the year, and this summer I’ve got a simple fern on the mantle and on the chest below the windows.

And my favorite new summer decoration this year is this moss bowl. The color is so vibrant!!

I was inspired to make this after I saw a booth at the antique fair in Round Top, Texas with so many amazing moss bowls. I couldn’t get them out of my head after I got home! You can see how I made my own moss bowl here.

My shelves by the mantle stay pretty static and basic this time of year. I like to keep them simple but there is a tropical plant peeking out of the vase.

In the kitchen, I brought over a little bright green with some Granny Smith apples in the copper bowl. The island eating area got some casual texture with hyacinth placemats. And I have simple faux greenery in the white vases.

The white pitcher in the dough bowl on the kitchen table holds more green and white hydrangeas like the living room coffee table.

I am loving the blue, green, and white combination…the colors of grass and sky in summer! And it is different than any of the color combinations I use for the rest of the year. It almost makes it seem like my room gets a mini makeover.

Bijoux says the dog days of summer aren’t far away!!

I almost don’t want to call this summer “decorating” because I am literally just able to set these things out with little fuss or arranging. So easy! And isn’t that what summer is about?
