Holiday Decorating Inspiration: How to Decorate a Hutch For Christmas

Welcome to my home as I decorate a farmhouse-style hutch my husband made for me several years ago. Now, how many of you go to Pinterest for holiday decorating inspiration? Well, I certainly do. You may recognize some of these ideas for decorating a hutch for Christmas. Let’s see how these Christmas hutch ideas turn out in my home.

Here are the steps I took to incorporate Farmhouse-style Christmas decorations into my hutch this year.

Hutch with a plaid backdrop

Plaid backdrop

I love the idea of a plaid backdrop, but I didn't want it to be something permanent that I couldn't change out every season. So my husband measured and cut a thin plywood board and notched out several areas so the board would fit snugly in my hutch.

We then taped some plaid wrapping paper I had on hand from last year, and he added the wood to the backdrop of the hutch. The removable and adjustable shelves were put back to secure the plaid board in place so that it wouldn't fall forward.

I'm adding some of my Sandra Lee place settings that I thrifted over the summer. The remaining other dishes will go on my dining room table for the holidays.

Ironstone platters

I also have a couple of ironstone platters that were thrifted several years ago, and I'm going to go ahead and add the small one at the top and the larger one on the second shelf of the hutch.

Sandra Lee cups

I have only four cups of the Sandra Lee set. I will add two of them to the hutch.

I also added a small snowflake and a large snowflake.

Adding brass bells to the hutch

The only brand new thing that I have added to my hutch this year is the brass bells, which I found at Hobby Lobby. Everything else is what I already had on hand from Christmases past.

Adding a galvanized ornament

Then, I’m adding my galvanized ornament from Michaels.

Yes, yes, yes, I will for sure do this to a lovely, farmhouse hutch in my own home! This antique, shabby-white piece inspires me to use the iconic red and green wrapping paper the gifts are wrapped with this year. Thank you for sharing this great idea, and Merry Christmas, Rebecca!!! <3
