Hang your wall sconce 6 inches from the top of the window frame to the bottom of the sconce backplate.
Above open shelves
When hanging wall sconces above open shelves, leave 12 to 18 inches from the shelf bottom to the bottom of the sconce backplate.
Above kitchen counters
Hang sconces 24 to 30 inches above the kitchen counter to the center of the sconce backplate.
Bathroom sconces
For bathrooms, leave 60 to 65 inches from the floor to the midpoint of the sconce backplate.
Bedroom sconces
Wondering how high to hang wall sconces next to a bed? Keep 55 to 60 inches between the floor and the center of the sconce backplate.
Above a fireplace
If you’re hanging sconces above a fireplace, leave 60 to 72 inches from the floor to the center of the sconce backplate.
Hallways
Hang sconces 60 to 72 inches from the floor to the center of the sconce backplate.
Above console tables
Sconces hung above console tables are stunning. Be sure to leave 60 to 65 inches from the floor to the center of the sconce backplate.
Exterior sconces
When using sconces on your exterior walls, mount them 60 to 65 inches from the ground to the bottom of the fixture.
Anywhere else
The general rule of thumb is to measure 60 to 72 inches from the ground to the center of the sconce backplate.
