5 Simple Interior Design Tips That Really Make a Difference
If you're looking for ways to freshen up your home, I'm here to give you some interior design tips, so you can learn how to do that in a really easy and budget-friendly way. So without further ado, here are my five top tips.
Interior design tips
1. Consider lighting
Especially during the wintertime, it's really important to get some natural light into your home. So when you're organizing your furniture and your space, think about where the light is going to be and how it's going to be hitting that space.
For example, if you're working from home and spending all of your day inside, direct your furniture and your desk towards the light so that you can get some of that natural light throughout the day.
2. Mix furniture shapes
Mix round furniture with square furniture to balance out the space. This is something that I intuitively did in my own home.
Square furniture can make a space look quite masculine and edgy, and if you wanted to soften it, you could incorporate round or oval furniture so that it gives the space a bit of a softness and therefore, is conducive to a calm and peaceful state of mind.
3. Personalize your space
Make sure to personalize your space. I think one of the most important things in a home is to make it personal to you. I really love art prints. Anything that I look at that makes me happy, I like to have around me in my home.
Art has a way of stimulating our senses and getting past our logic in a way that lifts our mood without us actually having to think ourselves there.
4. Use accessories
If you're on a budget and you're looking to freshen up your home but don't know where to start, go out and buy some beautiful candle holders, get some fresh flowers, and get some beautiful pillows and throws.
This can really change your space, particularly with the plants because they are bringing a bit of nature into the home, and they really do make a difference.
5. Use accents
Finally, use accents to create connectivity and cohesion throughout your home. This is particularly true if you're someone who's a maximalist and likes to use all kinds of different textures and colors.
It helps to pick out two or three accents to create connectivity and cohesion throughout the home. In my apartment, I like to use gold frames and velvet so those are the two textures alongside pink and dark green.
That way, even though things are a different color, you can still connect, there's still cohesion, and there's still connectivity in the space. And it still somehow feels very peaceful to look at and not too jarring for the eyes.
