Tips for Decorating a Fall Front Entry – Three Daughters Home

With cooler temps comes beautiful, autumn adorned front entryways. You, too, can have festive front steps without breaking the bank! How? Just follow these six simple tips for decorating a fall front entry, and you’ll be the envy of your neighborhood!

+ TIP Pick a palette

Are you into bold oranges and reds, or more into muted tones like ivory and sage? Or maybe a mix of both? Start with a color palette that makes you happy, and go from there! 🙂 The great thing about decorating the exterior of your home for fall is that there is a wide variety of colorful fall florals and – pumpkins! – to fit whatever style you’re going for.

+ TIP Dress up your door

You don’t necessarily need to go all out and paint your door like I did, but it is a relatively cheap and easy way to makeover your entrance. We painted our blah white door orange, added new black hardware, and I must say, it turned out a little more orange-y than I anticipated, but I love it! (Paint color is a swatch of Valspar Bear Claw from Lowes we got paint matched at Home Depot. It totally came out more orange than the swatch, but we rolled with it.) Before choosing a paint color, take into account the exterior colors of your house and swatch, swatch swatch!

Don’t want to bust out the paint cans? That’s okay too! Jazz up your door with a wreath and/or welcome sign.

+ TIP Add a festive door mat

Why are door mats so fun? Is it just me, lol? I love choosing a fun door mat to welcome guests. You can have so much fun with it! I love this buffalo check layering rug, which you could reuse for other season’s as well.

+ TIP Tiered fall florals

Mums the word on how I’ve managed to keep my fall florals alive… (it’s only a matter of time, lol). Sorry, couldn’t help the corny fall joke haha, but in all seriousness! Mums make a beautiful edition to any front entry. They come in a wide variety of colors and sizes, and are fairly low maintenance — even for black thumbs like me! Asters are another great option, like these purple ones Everly picked out. The trick is to make them look like they are cascading down your steps. Choose some different height/size planters and tier them. This adds visual depth and creates a pathway with your door as the focal point.

+ TIP Don’t be afraid to go faux

Guess how many of those pumpkins are fake? All but one! We will eventually get more to carve for Halloween, but save money by getting craft pumpkins you can use again and again! Faux mums are also a thing (I’ve seen them on QVC- I’ve linked them over in my blog post on threedaughtershome.com). They are a bit of a splurge up-front, but just think, to never have to buy mums and worry about killing them…?! I may need to buck up and make the investment. 😬

+ TIP Shed some light

I love the look of lanterns on front steps! There’s something so grand yet cozy about a little bit of added light. I snagged my lanterns for a steal at Lowe’s — be on the lookout for patio clearance deals! (I can’t link them, unfortunately, but I’ve linked some other affordable ones.) I’ve also been on the search for some outdoor candles, and these are about as close to a Pottery Barn dupe as you’re gonna get! They have a steady light setting and a candle setting, with a little flame that actually moves making it look so realistic! The remote also has different time settings, so I can set them to automatically shut off after a few hours, which I love because well… mom brain. I may even add some smaller lanterns with simple electric tea light candles.
