Decorating around a TV that’s huge is possible with a few tips and tricks that I’ll show you how to achieve. A lot of us have TVs that are over 65 inches because we don’t want to squint at a screen.

If you enjoy big screens and you’re also a design enthusiast, how do you integrate the two? Here are some decorating ideas for a TV wall or console.

1. Use a dark console

A great way to balance out the big black rectangular screen is to use a dark console under the TV. It’s almost like you’re using the color of the screen as part of the color palette of your room instead of trying to disguise it.

Repeating the darkness from the TV screen makes the color palette look intentional.

2. Get a frame TV

Consider getting a Samsung TV called The Frame. This TV comes with a frame–it’s pretty self-explanatory. It’s not a tacky frame, either. It’s a sleek, minimalist frame that sits flush on the wall like a real picture frame.

You put the frame into “rest mode” and that’s when the magic happens and the TV becomes a work of art that’s almost impossible to distinguish from a piece of real art. This is one of the most effective ways of integrating a TV on the wall.

Usually, you’ll make it part of a gallery wall.

But hanging it over a mantel makes it look like a painting and it’s a great solution.

3. Create a dark accent wall

Since the screen is black when it’s off, a tried and true way of blending the dark rectangle is to paint the wall behind your TV black or another dark color. This technique makes the black screen recede into the wall so it becomes much less of an eyesore.

4. Create a gallery wall

Incorporate your wall-mounted TV into a gallery wall. You can also do this with a TV on a stand on a console.

6. Use plants

One simple way to overcome a large, tech piece, like a TV, in a room is to place plants around it. Place a large potted plant near the screen to soften the area.

TV covered by a wall tapestry

7. Cover it with a big tapestry

Hide the screen behind a tapestry. The tapestry just comes up or is removed when you want to watch TV. This may work only with certain decor styles and not everyone will want to hang a huge tapestry over a TV.

8. Hide your TV entirely

If you just can’t stand seeing this black box on your wall, conceal it. Some options are expensive, such as TV lifts in cabinets, beds with hidden TV storage in the footboards, and TVs disguised as mirrors, but I find these solutions a little too elaborate.

Unsightly TV wires

9. Hide the TV wires

This doesn’t hide the TV but it improves the look. Dangling cables are unsightly.

Mounted TV wires can be hidden by routing them through the wall. It is a good solution if you know you’ll never move the TV.

It’s easier to conceal wires when a TV is on a stand. Just gather them and tuck them out of sight.

Manipulate the visuals of a room by working with the floor. Placing a very bold and striking rug on the floor below the TV helps draw the eye away from the TV.

Storaging the TV inside a cabinet

12. Use a cabinet

Place your TV inside a cabinet. This works for a TV that’s not overly huge.

The TVs posted here are not very large and can be easily hidden. My TV is 60" and none of these options can be used. :(
