How I Decorated My Beautiful Blue and White Christmas Tree

Choosing the right box, skirt, or collar for your Blue and White Christmas Tree

Today there are so many choices for you to use around the base of your tree.

• Tree skirt
• Collar
• Box
• An old Crate

There are many other options if you think outside the box a little bit. I have two other large trees in the house that I will also be sharing very soon. They both are in very usual items that you might not have thought of. I can’t wait to share them with you as well.

We used a wooden box my husband and I built last year for this tree out of some old barn wood. and some white pickets from an old fence. These boxes are quite easy to make and fold down for storage.

What to gather to put on your Blue and White Christmas Tree

Here is a list of items that I like to collect to put on my tree

• Ribbon
• Springs of berries
• Branches
• Pinecones
• Ornaments

I chose plates and some of my collection of blue and whiteware for this tree.

Creating a Tree Topper for your Christmas Tree

I love to have a dramatic tree topper if there is room. Fortunately, we have very tall ceilings, so even with a 9″ tree, I had room to add a topper. I gathered branches of blue pampas grass, white twigs, red berries, feathers, and antlers.

How to put Ribbon on your Christmas Tree

There are several different ways that I like to put ribbons on my trees.

I decided to attach individual loops or small bows for this tree in my dining room.

Ribbons can add so much texture and color to your tree. This year, I chose four different ribbons to use.

• Blue and red plaid ribbon from D Stevens that is 4″ wide
• Blue and white Toile ribbon from D STevens that is about 3.5″ wide
• Blue metallic ribbon that is 1.5″ wide
• Skinny 3/8 inch velvet ribbon in Sapphire blue and red

I started with the largest ribbon, the plaid, and created individual single or double-looped bows and attached them here and there with wire.

Next, I added the large blue and white toile ribbon using the same method. Creating a simple one or a two-looped bow in my hand, then add a wire and cut the ribbon before attaching it to the tree.

The metallic blue ribbon was to add a bit of sparkle and shine, and I just added a few small bows.

Lastly, I added a few skinny bows tied near the ends of the branches that drape nicely.

Adding Branches and Sprigs to my Tree

I like to choose a variety of sprigs and branches to add to the tree. This gives you a variety of textures and colors it adds to the tree.

I also used several flocked pine branches with pinecones. A few flocked twigs, lots of white and red berries, and several branches of magnolia leaves with buds. These are all artificial greenery and branches that I used.

Attaching the Plates and Ginger Jars to my Blue and White Christmas Tree

This was a little tricky and took some thought. I also had to be careful not to weigh the front of the tree.

You can not see the back. However, I have hung two very large and heavy lanterns in the tree on the back to balance the weight.

Here is how I hung the plates and the ginger jars. For the plates, I used a wall plate hanger. I placed the hanger on the plate and then wired the hanger onto the tree.

For the ginger jars, my friend Suzane gave me a great tip. Use a button and a piece of wire. Place the wire through both holes in the button and twist. Now hot glue the button to the inside of the jar and allow the two wires to hang outside of the jar. Now hot glue on the lid of the jar and attach the two wires to the tree. Brilliant!!!! You could also use this method to attach items that do not have a lid, like the picture below.

If the item I was hanging had a handle like the white ironstone pitchers, I used a ribbon to tie them on by the handle.

Lastly, I like to add a few white magnolias to brighten the tree up, along with some pinecones, feathers, antlers, and a few small chinoiserie ornaments.
