Romantic decor at Target

Before starting today's quick and easy project, I stopped by the Target Bullseye Playground to see if I could find some inspiration for Valentine's Day.

Romantic decor

One of my top tips on decorating for Valentine's Day without it looking tacky is to focus on creating a romantic atmosphere instead of relying solely on traditional symbols like hearts and cupids.

Throw blankets on the sofa and ottoman

Use a color palette of soft, warm tones like pinks and whites, incorporating elements like candles, soft lighting, and plush textiles.

Consider incorporating natural materials like flowers and greenery and use an understated approach to decorating, such as this woven ottoman tray. Choose romantic items, like vintage pieces or elegant accents, rather than over-the-top decorations. The key is to create a space that feels intimate and special without being too kitschy.

Cozy textiles

Since Valentine's Day technically still falls in the winter season, I will keep those cozy textiles and textures in play on the sofa with my throw pillows, but I will add some color.

To add color, I will use mostly muted hues of color. I worked with the colors used for this room and added some pinks and whites because they work well with the grays and blues as the base colors of this room.

Heart-shaped pillow

I found this really cute heart-shaped pillow.

I was drawn to this one because of the soft and cozy fabric. I've seen many of them around this season, but I was also drawn to this one because of its muted pink color. It's also fun to pick up a new throw. They're always pretty affordable at places like Home Goods or Marshalls.

I found this one, and I love the texture. I like to do a nice straight fold along the bottom of the cheese, but you could fluff it out and put it underneath your throw pillows for a cozier look.

On the other side of the sofa, I pulled in just a little more of the subtle hue of pink with my favorite throw pillow.

Coffee table styling for Valentine's Day

Coffee table styling

So far, we've added some color. We've added some lovely, cozy fabrics. Let's move on to styling the ottoman or coffee table. I will add some personal touches that remind me of Valentine's Day. I scored on this book today, this coffee table book in Home Goods. I love a gorgeous coffee table book, so I will start with that as my base.

Then, I'm going to add in my favorite oversized glass vessel. I love using glass vessels to style a coffee table because they allow light to pass through. So, to bring in more color, I will keep my same eucalyptus stems, but I will bring in some more of those muted hues of pink to pull some of that pink through the room.

Understated romantic elegance

This is understated elegance. So it feels romantic and sophisticated, but it doesn't feel like it doesn't fit into the design space.

To bring in a little more texture and color, I was hoping to find an open, white bowl that I could use the base fillers I'd found at Target earlier, but I couldn't find one. So, I stacked some marble on top just to give this space some dimension.

Then, I added the base fillers I found at Target today. They're really cute. You could do a lot of different things with them. I will use lighter colors because I don't have any red in this design, but I may use some leftover red in the kitchen. In the coffee station, or if I put together a little basket for my kids.

Candlelight inside lanterns

Now, let's talk a little bit about lighting. You can create a warm and inviting ambiance using candles. You can also use string or fairy lights and always find affordable options at dollar stores or big box stores.

Not only does this candle smell delightful, but because of its shape and the material that it's used in, it can be repurposed. After burning it, I'll clean it out and put it on my nightstand or office desk to corral my jewelry.

To add a couple more romantic personal touches, I added lanterns mirrored on the bottom and put in a simple tea candle. And remember the XO that I found earlier at the Target bullseye playground? I picked a few of those.

I may try to make a small garland for the mantle, but for now, I've just tucked one right on top underneath my floral arrangement to say hello; Valentine's Day, we see you.
