DIY vs. Store-Bought: What’s Right for You?

When it comes to fall wreaths and door hangers, you have the option to buy pre-made decorations or create your own. Here’s how to decide which is best for you:

DIY Wreaths and Door Hangers

  • Pros: Creating your own allows for complete customization. You can choose exactly the colors, materials, and style that fit your home and taste. DIY projects can also be a fun and creative way to welcome the season.
  • Cons: DIY can be time-consuming and may require some skill or experience with crafting. The cost of materials can also add up, especially if you want to use high-quality or specialty items.

Store-Bought Wreaths and Door Hangers

  • Pros: Store-bought options are convenient and come in a wide range of styles, so you’re likely to find something that suits your taste without the effort of making it yourself. Many are professionally designed, ensuring they look polished and well-made.
  • Cons: You might have less control over the specific details and personalization. Store-bought items can also be more expensive than DIY if you’re looking for high-end designs.

Tips for Hanging and Displaying Your Fall Wreath or Door Hanger

  • Choose the Right Size: Ensure your wreath or door hanger is proportional to your door. A too-small wreath can get lost, while one that’s too large might overwhelm the space.
  • Secure It Properly: Use a strong, reliable hook or hanger that can withstand outdoor elements like wind and rain. Consider using a wreath hanger that fits over the top of the door for a seamless look.

  • Layer with Other Decor: Enhance the impact of your wreath or door hanger by layering it with other fall decor, such as potted mums, a doormat, or lanterns on your porch.
  • Consider Lighting: If your door area is dimly lit, consider adding some battery-operated string lights to your wreath or door hanger. This can add a warm, inviting glow, especially in the evenings.

  • Switch It Up: Don’t be afraid to change your wreath or door hanger as the season progresses. Start with a simple harvest wreath in early fall, and switch to a Halloween-themed hanger in October, followed by a Thanksgiving wreath in November. Or, you can choose a door hanger with parts that can be switched out the seasons and holidays:

Live in a motel, so outside door decorations would unfortunately detract from the uniform look of the establishment. Can always put a wreath inside the door for a personal look to my room.
